“Left behind are remnants of yesterday’s dwellers along these three score blocks... it is as if a giant park rolled across the city now. Here are the streets that will die of deadend disease, little pieces of street that will soon go nowhere at all... The coming of a freeway is tinged with sadness...there is a mood of dislocation and loss and confusion... Some express the mood that now that we have this park swath through the city, why not keep it? A green belt through Pasadena? Better for urban living than another freeway.”
